citations
sublimated supports citing bibliography entries from .bib files using Pandoc-style syntax. push a .bib file to your space, then cite entries from any markdown file.
.bib files
BibTeX is a plain text bibliography format used by LaTeX, Typst, Pandoc, R Markdown, Zotero, Mendeley, and many other tools. each entry has a type, citation key, and fields:
@article{knuth1984,
author = {Donald E. Knuth},
title = {Literate Programming},
journal = {The Computer Journal},
year = {1984},
volume = {27},
pages = {97--111}
}
@book{lamport1994,
author = {Leslie Lamport},
title = {LaTeX: A Document Preparation System},
publisher = {Addison-Wesley},
year = {1994},
isbn = {0-201-52983-1}
}push a references.bib (or any .bib file) to your space. sublimated parses it and renders entries as formatted citation cards instead of raw text.
entry types: @article, @book, @inproceedings, @misc, @phdthesis, @techreport, and others.
citing in markdown
use Pandoc citation syntax in any .md file:
[@knuth1984] normal citation
[-@knuth1984] suppress author name (just year)
[@knuth1984, p. 42] with page locator
[@knuth1984; @lamport1994] multiple citations
[@knuth1984, pp. 97--111; @lamport1994, ch. 3] multiple with locatorscitations link to the corresponding entry in your .bib file.
backlinks
sublimated tracks which files cite which entries. browse a .bib file on the web and each entry shows "cited by" — all the markdown files that reference it. entries with zero citations are highlighted so you can spot unused references.
who uses .bib files
if you already use any of these, your .bib files work in sublimated:
LaTeX / Overleaf
Typst
Pandoc / R Markdown / Quarto
Zotero, Mendeley, JabRef (reference managers that export .bib)
Obsidian with the citation plugin
