custom domains
any folder on sublimated can have its own domain. two options: a *.sublimated.com subdomain or your own custom domain.
sublimated subdomain
claim a subdomain like kanapka.sublimated.com for any folder.
option 1 — add to .sbl/config.yml in the folder:
subdomain: kanapkapush the file and the subdomain is live immediately.
option 2 — use the settings UI on sublimated.com (folder settings > domains).
option 3 — API:
curl -X POST https://api.sublimated.com/v1/spaces/yourspace/subdomains \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $TOKEN" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"subdomain": "kanapka", "url_path": "sites/kanapka"}'subdomain rules: 3-63 chars, lowercase alphanumeric and hyphens, no leading/trailing hyphens.
custom domain
use your own domain (e.g. mysite.com) for any folder.
option 1 — add to .sbl/config.yml:
domain: mysite.comoption 2 — use settings UI or API.
after adding the domain, set up DNS at your provider. the exact record depends on whether you're using an apex domain (like mysite.com) or a subdomain (like blog.mysite.com).
subdomain (blog.mysite.com, docs.mysite.com)
add a CNAME record — this works on all DNS providers:
blog.mysite.com CNAME run.sublimated.comapex / naked domain (mysite.com)
apex domains can't have standard CNAME records (DNS spec limitation). you have two options depending on your provider:
option 1 — CNAME flattening (recommended if your provider supports it):
mysite.com CNAME run.sublimated.comproviders that support this: Cloudflare, Vercel DNS, Netlify DNS, Bunny DNS.
option 2 — ALIAS / ANAME record (same effect, different name):
mysite.com ALIAS run.sublimated.comproviders that support ALIAS: Route53 (AWS), DNSimple, DNS Made Easy, NS1.
option 3 — TXT verification (if your provider doesn't support CNAME flattening or ALIAS):
add a TXT record for domain ownership verification. the value is shown after you add the domain in the UI or API response:
_cf-custom-hostname.mysite.com TXT <your-hostname-id>providers where you need TXT: GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains, Hover, Porkbun.
note: with TXT verification the domain still works — Cloudflare routes traffic via the Custom Hostname. you just can't use a CNAME at the root.
www
if you want www.mysite.com too, add a CNAME for www:
www.mysite.com CNAME run.sublimated.comSSL is provisioned automatically via Cloudflare. verification usually completes in a few minutes.
you can check domain status in the settings UI or via API:
curl https://api.sublimated.com/v1/spaces/yourspace/domains \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $TOKEN"which folders support domains?
any folder that serves web content: zola sites, mdx pages, or any folder with an index.html. the domain maps to the folder — all files inside are served under that domain.
live example
kanapka.sublimated.com — a zola food blog with a sublimated subdomain.
